dan deacon = rad

so, last night i went to see dan deacon - there's a link to a video of him a couple posts back. anyway, he was fucking sensational. when i got to the show he was standing outside talking to some friends, and as i walked up they immediately turned to me, introduced themselves, etc. it was really cute. the actual show was technically pretty bad, because there were all sorts of mechanical malfunctions and whatnot, plus dan is suffering from a really bad cold, but he was so funny and good-natured about it that it was just charming, and a good time was had by all. at one point he danced so hard that he knocked his keyboard off the table, and he just made a pouty face and said "but i dance so good!" then he spent 5 minutes trying to put the batteries back in. furthermore, after the show, he came up to me again and shook my hand and said "stef, it was great to meet you, i'm so glad you came." i was like, SWOON. then he ran off to work his merch table - and i am endlessly charmed by performers who work their own merch tables.

there were 3 other bands there, but the only one whose name i remember was nuclear power pants, and they were okay. not great. it was their first show of their first actual tour - they've been playing around NYC for a while but this is the first time they actually left new york to play. i met all the guys beforehand and they were all wicked cool, but i just wasn't too impressed with their set. they all wore these big weird dinosaur heads and the two lead singers wore a costume that was designed to make them look like conjoined twins - funny at first but the gimmick was so distracting that i sort of lost interest. same with the songs - they only played about 4 songs because the really really horrible band before them (imagine the worst of the really earnest classic-rock-cover flunk day bands) went on for ages, but all their songs were like the same 5 lines over and over. hopefully they'll ease up on the nuclear power gag before the next time i see them.

tonight is the "knox kids who ended up in dc" dinner party and i'm pretty excited about that, except that it will be 3 couples and me. but whatever.

have a good weekend, guys.
