on outsourcing

so, i'm not even doing my own drunk-dialing these days. last night at a dinner party with my friends david, liza, and hana, and liza grabbed my phone and drunk-dialed drew. she left a long, rambling message about how hot she thinks he is, or how hot i think he is, or something. it's a little unclear. either way, it was more than a little embarrassing, especially when i consider that, according to my sent folder, he was also the recipient of one of the handful of drunken emails i sent out. oops. but he did send me a reassuring text message later. what a good sport, that drew!

alcohol + technology = no good.

like taft and the bathtub

you know, i think about this all the time, but this harriet miers nomination has just really emphasized to me that bush is going to go down into history as one of the most idiotic leaders this country has ever seen. seriously. just a flat-out idiot. nominating your lawyer for the supreme court? he's going to be notorious, infamous, like when we read in our textbooks about how taft had to have a specially made bathtub. i mean, it was funny when bush choked on the pretzel. what a bumblefuck that guy is, haha. but, nominating his own personal lawyer, who has never been a judge and never even argued a constitutional case? i couldn't make this shit up if i tried.

also, only 28% of americans think that the country is headed in the right direction.

this is so upsetting to me that i can't even be funny about it.

also, did you guys know how weird scientology births are? apparently you're not allowed painkillers (not surprising) but you're also not allowed to speak, cry, or play music. then, for seven days after the birth, you're not supposed to talk to the baby, or "poke or prod" the baby, including medical examinations, because the birth process is so painful that they don't want to expose the baby to even more sensory upheaval. that's just insane. i wonder if they do circumcision. now THAT'S sensory upheaval.

apartment-hunting

okay guys, sorry for totally going MIA there for a while. some of you know that i've been embroiled in an intense apartment-hunt, since i will be unceremoniously kicked out of my current place on october 15. and since i'll be at knox october 13-16, that means i only have about a week and a half to find a new place and move in. i'm freaking out about this, and it's all i think about or talk about. so, i'm going to talk about it here.
this is tricky, because i have to balance which ones i want the most with which ones i am most likely to actually be chosen for. (most of these are group houses where there are already 2-3 people living there, and they have people in and more or less interview them, then choose the most compatible person.) so, i currently seem to have three options.

ballston: a group house in arlington, VA with two awesome girls.
pros:great place, small room but a biggish living room, girls love arrested development and family guy, rent is $570 plus utilities, which usually totals around $650 (EXTREMELY cheap, comparatively), including maid service, and a back yard, very close to the metro, close to an awesome mall, no lease
cons: sharing a bathroom with one girl (which is pretty standard), utilities not included (so they'll be affected by rising gas prices), small room.
likelihood of getting this one: about 70%.
when they'll decide: monday night.

friendship heights: 3 bedroom apartment with 2 also awesome girls who work at the world bank
pros: genius roommates who are very nice and cool, HUGE HUGE room with enormous windows, rent is $580 including utilities (cheap!!)
cons: quite a bit further from the metro (probably 8 or 9 blocks), sharing a bathroom with one girl (who has long hair and probably takes loooooooong showers), having to sign a 10 month lease that i know i'll probably break
likelihood of getting this one: 60%
when they'll decide: sunday night

constitution avenue: 5 bedroom apartment with 4 awesome girls: 2 senate staffers, a fashion designer, and i can't remember the other one.
pros: cool location, house is absolutely gorgeous, roommates are great and extremely social (like, 4 instant friends), room is pretty big, landlord is very attentive, all new kitchen appliances, no lease.
cons: further from the metro (but there's a very close bus line), sharing a bathroom with TWO girls (but one of them works evenings and won't be a factor in the morning shower routine), grocery store is like a mile away
likelihood of getting this one: 80%
when they'll decide: sunday night

so: #1 is objectively the best, i have the best feeling about #2, and i'm most likely to get #3. ahhhhhhhh!
