Posting such disgusting and potentially inflamatory pictures on your blog only provokes censorship! You need to consider the effects of your actions!

I just read the comments on the post on Napoleon Dynamite. Rushmore is also one of my favorite movies (it probably is my favorite, but I fear using such absolutisms). You touch on the key difference between Rushmore and Napoleon Dynamite. In Rushmore we're given three flawed and totally fleshed out characters who deal with loss, jealousy, betrayal, confusion, redemption, etc. etc. and the outfits, the soundtrack, the sets, etc. are all incredible supplements to the core heart of the story. Napoleon Dynamite takes the huge turd of "making fun of social outcast" comedy and tries to wrap it in the same paper as something as empathetic and complex as Rushmore. What was disappointing is that so many more people than I expected failed to see the distinction.

Resolution to self: stop thinking about and writing about Napoleon Dynamite.

But I didn't get why people were really into Lord of the Rings either. I recognize that it's very beautifully shot and the story is very complex, but I just can't bring myself to care about wizards and trolls. I think years of observing the people who were into D & D has conditioned me to have an aversion to such material.

shawn, you've done several wonderful things here:
1) you've agreed with me, obviously, both on the total shitbag-ness of napoleon dynamite and the total gloriousness of rushmore, as well as the specific reasons why.
2) you've settled once and for all the "when replying to a new comment on an old post, do i comment on that old post, though it might not get seen, or on the new post, which is unrelated?" question. nice work!
3) you used the phrase "huge turd" in such a subtle and appropriate way that it actually made your point and didn't make me want to giggle at all, except with pride.
