well, for me, it's the subversive tactics that i find the most offensive. basically, they're taking their biggest customers for granted by secretly giving them worse treatment. if they said "up to 9 rentals a month for $17.99" then i would absolutely be fine with that. but to say that you can have as many as you want, then use shipping delays to keep you under 9, that's fucked up.

Yeah, this pisses me off too. I've been thinking about cancelling anyway, and this may put me over the edge.

I agree that the subversiveness is the bad part. I mean, Netflix really is an awesome deal, regardless. If only they would have thought highly enough of their consumers to realize that letting us know the actual number of rentals per month to expect would still be a good enough deal for most people. The people who want more than that don't have any other service to turn to so they'd obviously pick Netflix and just grin and bear it, but at least knowing where they stand. But instead Netflix decided to hide it, uncool, don't they know that big secrets are just beggin' to be revealed!?

well, i use blockbuster online, and in addition to 4 free in-store rentals a month, they don't seem to 'throttle,' although i did some research today and the more you rent, the lower priority you have when it comes to things with limited copies. which is, i suppose, why junebug has been in the front of my queue for a month and still says 'long wait.' nevertheless, last month i received 19 dvds, not including my instore rentals. also, i don't have a channel-receiving television, lest you think i'm a huge loser.

When I had Netflix, I'd watch up to nine movies a month. But since I cancelled, I rarely rent movies and I haven't noticed any change in my quality of life. In fact, I prefer not spending my time managing my queue, chasing down misplaced return envelopes, and trying to calculate whether my movies, sent from distant Kansas City, will arrive in time for my loafing weekend. Instead, I figure I can use that $18 a month to buy a book or movie I know I will enjoy.
